And now for a little education:

The Samsui Woman is an icon in Singapore. Between 1930 and 1980, women from the impoverished Samsui County of Guangdong in Southern China came to Singapore as construction workers. They arrived here at a very young age, and most of the women worked till the age of 70. They worked very hard and lived simply, sending most of their earnings back to their families in China. Their distinctive outfit consists of a red head gear, a blue pant suit called the Samfu, and an apron. Their head gear was created by folding a starched red cloth over their head, which served as their shield against the sun and dust.

The Peranakan Woman is a cultural identity unique to South East Asia. The word itself means "local born" in the Malay language. The Straits Chinese Peranakans are the descendants of the early Chinese community who married the Malay people and settled in the Malay Archipelago from the 15th century. Nonya (a female Peranakan) style of dressing includes the sarong (wrap skirt), kebaya (an intricately embroidered-type blouse), kerosang (a type of brooch that pins the Kebaya together) and to complete the outfit, Nonyas wear their hair in a type of bun called a konde.

Snowee

Custom-order: A tote and brooch made after Snowee, the customer's beloved white furry cat. One of the few requests made by customers: To have something made in memory of their pet's passing. While creating these pieces, I had with me a large photo album she'd (the customer) provided me that is filled with pictures of Snowee, along with snapshots of other pets she'd had. It's heartwarming to see a family of cats and dogs getting along, and cared for by loving people. It's real nice to catch a glimpse of that.
